Liposuction Surgery

Lypo.co.uk is here to inform anyone who is considering who knows anyone considering liposuction about the complications, risks, side effects, techinques, results and the cost of liposuction.

What is Liposuction?

Liposuction is a cosmetic procedure that removes unwanted fat from beneath the skin. The procedure is generally done by inserting a hollow tube (the cannula) through small incisions in the skin. The unwanted fat is then sucked out of the body through the tube by an aspirator and collected in a container.

Who is Liposuction for?

Lyposuction works best on those people who have 'stubborn areas'. These are areas of the body that no matter how much exercise you do, or how healthy you eat, you aren't getting the results you want. Lipo can remove these stubborn areas of fat from your body and make you look and feel great. It is important to remember that Liposuction is meant to be a cosmetic procedure for reshaping and contouring your body. Lypo should not be the primary option for those who are obese and want to lose weight fast because without a healthy eating and exercise regime you will regain the weight almost immediately. You must also realise that if a large amount of fat is removed from one area then the skin is likely to be loose and saggy because over the years it will have lost its elasticity.

Liposuction is also not an appropriate procedure for those wanting to banish cellulite or stretch marks as removing fat from the body won't have any effect on these conditions. Lipo is not suitable if you are extremely overweight, and as it is a surgical procedure if you have a history of blood clotting, heart disease or any other problem that might make you a high risk candidate whilst is surgery you should be sure to notify the doctor or the clinic performing the Liposuction.

How much does Liposuction Cost?

This is like asking how long is a piece of string? It's hard to tell unless you have all the information. There are many things that vary the cost of the lyposuction procedure, for example the cost is likely to increase if there is a lot of fat that needs to be removed, if there is a lot of scar tissue and if you want the liposuction in a difficult more challenging area or in several areas. The most expensive procedures are abdominal liposuction and breast reduction liposuction.

The cost of lipo also varies from clinic to clinic. Some clinics can charge higher prices because they have a good reputation and the well known plastic surgeons. Yes you will be having high quality surgery but you will also be paying for the name.

When you have been for a liposuction consultation you will receive a quote. You will need to ask if this is the total fee. Some places only quote you for the surgery and don't tell you about the after care fees and the cost of the anesthesiologist etc. You can find more helpful tips on choosing the right lyposuction clinic towards the bottom of this page.

On what parts of the body can you have Liposuction?

You can have Liposuction on nearly any part of the body that accumulates fat. The most common liposuction procedures, particularly on women are tummy liposuction, hip liposuction, outer thigh liposuction and liposuction on the love handles. Most people have liposuction to remove the stubborn fat which they find hard to shift through exercise and a healthy diet. Even though you can have the fat removed from almost anywhere on your body if you don't exercise and eat healthy after the surgery then you will just put the weight back on a again. Lypo is only a permanent solution to weight loss if you look after your body post surgery.

How does Liposuction work?

There are 3 main types of liposuction that can be performed on the body. These are:
-Tumescent Liposuction
-Ultrasound Liposuction (ultrasonic)
-Laser Liposuction

Deciding which Liposuction to have mainly depends on how much fat you want removing and where. The surgeon will explain which is best for you and why in your consultation.

How do I choose the Right Clinic and Plastic Surgeon?

When you start looking you will come across a lot of liposuction clinics and cosmetic surgery clinics on the internet, or in phone directories etc. However the best way to find a good liposuction surgeon is to ask family and friends. They wouldn't recommend somewhere if they didn't have a good experience. Liposuction is such a popular procedure so you are bound to know someone who has had the surgery or even someone that knows someone. If not there is always forums and testimonials. Once you have narrowed down your choices you should visit the liposuction clinic for a consultation, this way you will be able to get a feel for what the clinic is like and you can decide if you like it or not. remember you must feel comfortable!
Whilst the cheapest liposuction clinic might seem like the best option at the time, be sure that you have done your research to make sure they are a trusted and experienced liposuction clinic.

Liposuction may seem like the perfect answer to getting rid of that unwanted fat, but could seem scary and daunting as with any surgery! As long as you are well informed of the complications and recovery procedures and as long as you have done the right research and found a trusted and experienced liposuction clinic and surgeon you should be absolutely fine.
